Not necessarily because one is corny or too romantic, but because one LOVES Literature and thus its highest level: Shakespeare's writing!
Please watch the first video, which is a walk-through entering a Broadway Theater and since attending a play like this there is not an easy dream to accomplish for most of us, at least let's watch it here and feel the experience a little.
Please answer the following questions:
- How authentic is R&J's first-sight-love-like encounter in the play? Do you believe it could happen with that intensity in real life? Explain.
- What reasons could a thirteen-year-old girl, around the year 1595 have, to marry an 18-year-old boy just a few days after meeting him? Explain at least 5 of them

Remember that opinions can not be exactly the same, and if you do not answer every question to the detail, you will not get all the points for your comments.
1. It is an just an intense love between these two teenagers, but not quite sure if a genuine one. Yes! In fact, Romeo even forgets about her crush, Rosaline, when he meets Juliet. In a way, I just believe that Romeo admires in a deeply and intense way Juliet's beauty. I do believe, that when we are young we are careless in love. We tend to take decisions based in chemistry within minutes of meeting someone, sure, this can happen. But knowing and feeling love, sorry, but I don´t think it works at all in this way. Loving someone is to get to know that person, accept his or her heart and giving yours to that someone as well, fully. I have learned, that love only flourishes when you allow that person to come into your life and stay. Because it takes time to develop trust, vulnerability and real intimacy. It’s also about feeling a sense of peace, comfort and emotional safety with that someone. These things take time to develop. Same as love takes time to develop, too.
ResponderBorrar2. 2. I think that the influence of family traditions, the marriage arrangement ,the families´ power, back in those days were reasons for a teenager girl to marry and also, the desire for public acceptance or protocol. Another reason could be religion, but it definitely the social importance, or labels in which a woman must get married when she is young could be the main reason in order to mantaining a social status.
3. At this point of the story,I don`t agree with Friar Laurence’s intentions, which are not as clear as they seem, since he is attempting to mend or stop the feud between the two families with the marriage between R&J. Instead, the Nurse is at this point of the story, being kind of a matchmaker or intermediator between these teenagers that are starting to get to know each other.
4. I do identify with Juliet because of her inner strength and beauty. She is a sweet loving, a mature girl in despite of her age that decides not to marry Paris, defying her parents. She was totally against her family situation, against her world but decided to love in a passionate way, committed, and loyal to her sentiments for Romeo, her one and only love.
1. I think that is authentic the way that the actors perform their role. They has convinced me and make me part of the story. It was in a humorous way they presented this act between the celebration in Capulet´s house that I forgot for a minute that they were enemies. It remember me that pieces of literature of the romanticism that were lovers from a sight or a word felt in a deep and wonderful love. Indeed the most extraordinary is how Shakespeare's using his particular writing led us such a masterpiece were many persons around the world can identify their feelings and thoughts in the lines of these author until our days.
ResponderBorrarI had worked with teenagers (since nine years) in my experience this kind of love happen so intensely in real life. Since my point of view is a big issue in our society and around another’s societies, the amount of early pregnancy between teenagers have increase from the point of view if the United Nations Honduras is the second country in Latin America with the highest rate of pregnant adolescents. The research we have done in our students (more than two hundred) is that they believed in love as R&J´s, a first sight had change everything forgetting their dreams or goals, thinking that love is so wonderful that will be perfect for their entire life. The scientist and psychologist have proven in different studies that during this stage of the adolescent our capacity of reasoning is not so good, I remember one training that a specialist explain us that you can imagine the head of a teenager as a small rider on a gigantic elephant, emotions are the ones how rules their life. I conclude saying that I think, love could happen with the intensity of R&J.
2. From my point of view one of the reason a girl could want to marry, an 18-year boy is because most of the time girls have their hormonal changes earlier so is more interesting older boys. A second reason could be to revel her family, teenagers doesn´t like to follow rules. A third one is girls that have problems in their homes they can feel that an older person can give what she needs and want. A fourth will be the traditions of society in that period of the history culture of arrangement marriage based on economic and political reasons today we have the tradition of presenting the girls in their 15 years to society where she is already for social relationships. The last reason is because she feel that have found real love and does not what to lose it.
3. I think that they are bad because R&J are still children discovering themselves with many insecurities and there are not thinking about the consequences that their actions can have. They also seems to forget their role in society they have to be as guides, counselors and the reason for teenagers in history. If we think of the Friar John, he must teach Christian values and try to solve the feud by mediating among adults. The Nurse also has to act more like an adult and do not do everything Juliet tell hers. When both talk with Romeo, there is not a phrase of convincing them that is a bad idea of getting marry so soon or making them think about the magnitudes of their actions.
4. I think that I identify with the nurse because she is very maternal with Juliet, the way she have taken care of her reminds me the role I have to do with my own family. First, I am the older of my brother and sister so I have to watch out for them. Second, she likes to help; I totally convinced that my vocations is helping people. The third, she is a protector I also feel that I am like these I can give my life for the people that is important to me. Fourth, she likes to talk a lot and I love talking. The fifth, she is poor love like me.
1. How authentic is R&J's first-sight-love-like encounter in the play? Do you believe it could happen with that intensity in real life? Explain.
ResponderBorrarWhen Romeo first saw Juliet at the Capulet ball it seems like if he had seen an angel " He asks himself "Did my heart love till now? "I never saw true beauty till this night. As we all know R&J were both in their teens, and most young people tends to say that they are in love based on looks not personality so I think that this is one of the reason they fell in love at first sight. But also Juliet was not so interested on Romeos looks, he was so direct with her at the party he grabbed her hand and kissed her twice in her mouth, I think that kissing can make a person FEEL like they are in love. I don’t believe that love at first sight can happen so instantly in real life maybe a person can feel some attraction to other person at that moment but that’s about it.
2. What reasons could a thirteen-year-old girl, around the year 1595 have, to marry an 18-year-old boy just a few days after meeting him? Explain at least 5 of them
Well I think that back in the days it was legal to married at a young age that is why Juliet’s mother was so focus on marriage. R&J got married so quickly because they desire each other so much but they knew that their families would not allow them to be together so they thought that the best way to get over this was by getting married. Also marriage was forever which means that once married, the Montagues and the Capulets wouldn’t be able to separate them and would have to deal with it.
3. Being adults, are both the Nurse and Friar Laurence's intentions with their help to R&J's plans good or bad? Write at least five full lines judging them from your perspective, you can NOT say that they are both good and bad. You Must Take a Side!
In my point of view, the Nurse and Friar had good intentions for R&J but it went wrong. The fact that Juliet and the Nurse were so close, they had a wonderful relationship the Nurse was like Juliet’s mother, so she would differently want the best for her daughter. Friar advises R&J not to rash their relationship because he knew that both of their families heated each other, he agrees to marry them because he believe that they are badly, deeply in love, and he also wants to believe that the relationship between both families will get better for the sake of R&J marriage. Because it is a secret marriage and no one knows about it that's when it all goes wrong.
4. Which character do you identify the most with? Explain 5 reasons why.
The character that I think identify me most would have to be the Nurse why? Well simply because she is a very helpful person, she tries hard to please others and wants the best for them, she also tends to listen more than she talks and is very loyal to friends, funny, motherly and caring. I consider myself like her because I love to listen to my friends when they have a problem, I always look for those who need my help, I am very outgoing, and my friend think that I am funny and caring.
1.How authentic is R&J's first-sight-love-like encounter in the play? Do you believe it could happen with that intensity in real life? Explain.
ResponderBorrarIn the play I could watch how Romeo and Juliet felt in love for a simple first sight, with an authentic and pure love. However Romeo was in the party for his love Rosaline in his enemy’s house, he was comfortable and happy to see her. But then he meets with Juliet and since that moment they were fall in love. When they finished to dance they were talking and Romeo kiss her, let her to develop her love for him. Without wait to know them each other, And in my opinion, I think that this intensive love at first sight could no happened in real life, because the people have to know first about others before fall in love, probably could happen to see and admire other person but without intensive love, because to feel an intensive love need time.
2.What reasons could a thirteen-year-old girl, around the year 1595 have, to marry an 18-year-old boy just a few days after meeting him? Explain at least 5 of them
I think that the reasons are, first the influence of her family, maybe she wanted to have another experiences with other people, not just with her family. Secondly she didn´t want to follow her family’s rules because her father wanted that she marry with a rich man with their same economy status without care if she feels love. A third reason could be that she believes in the love when she meets Romeo, so she thought that marries with him, she could be different. And the last reason probably is that she wanted to go against the tradition of her family referring to their enemies.
3.Being adults, are both the Nurse and Friar Laurence's intentions with their help to R&J's plans good or bad? Write at least five full lines judging them from your perspective; you can NOT say that they are both good and bad. You Must Take a Side!
In my opinion I agree with their help, because they wanted the best for them, however they were Youngers in that time, but I think that the Nurse and Friar Laurence help them because they saw that they felt pure love without care about their status and traditions’ family.
4.Which character do you identify the most with? Explain 5 reasons why.
I think that I identify with Juliet because; she is a strong girl without care about the opinions of others. Second she is a romantic woman and I like this characteristic because I like to do so, third she takes her own decisions for her life even if she is wrong. I think that in the life, we as humans, we have to take our own decisions, not wait for others to think and see what way to choose. And other reason is that she is a dynamic woman different according with her family’s tradition, because I think to be different from other is the key to have a better life.

ResponderBorrarI think that Romeo admire the beauty of Julia and he falled in love of her immediately, Also, I think that Romeo caught the attention of Julia because he kissed her twice. But it is important to know that they were very young in the play, and it is liked they fallen in love only to see the physical beauty of each other. I don't believe that love at the first sight happen in the real life, because I think that is really important to know the feeling and the personality of the person, in my opinion love grows up over the time.
2. What reasons could a thirteen-year-old girl, around the year 1595 have, to marry an 18-year-old boy just a few days after meeting him? Explain at least 5 of them
In my opinion, one of the reason was that Romeo was the first person who talk her of love to her and she want to have new experiences in her life, also, she wanted to get married with the person that she loved and not with the man that her family imposed to her. another reason was that she felt really closed in her house, finally she felt real love for Romeo.
3.Being adults, are both the Nurse and Friar Laurence's intentions with their help to R&J's plans good or bad? Write at least five full lines judging them from your perspective, you can NOT say that they are both good and bad. You Must Take a Side!
I think the intentions of the nurse and friar laurence were good for the couple, because in the case of the nurse, she has been with Julia since she was a child, they were very closed and the nurse didn't want something bad for Julia, she wanted that Julia was happy. in the same way of friar laurence he knew the love that Romeo and Julia felt was real, pure and innocent and I think that both will help them in their relationship.
4.Which character do you identify the most with? Explain 5 reasons why
I think that I identify with the nurse, because she gave trust to Julia she always has been with Julia advice and help her. for these reason I identify with she because, with my friends I give them good advices, also I try to help them when they have problems, I consider myself a good friend and support people that I love, always I want the best for them.
In my opinion they act as if it were possible, immediately they sight met it was like fireworks! Apparently each one discovered something hidden in themselves. Their emotions sprang like flowers in spring and their mouths were filled with words to express them. In real life things happen in other ways but I think it is possible meet the true love in just one sight, obviously it depend on people and maybe it is not because you are lucky, is more as blessing. It just happen and you are sure that you found someone who completes you and you only needed a look to know it. The hard part is keeping that person by your side.

1. Immature: teenagers have not enough experience, they are discovering the world, they just are learning about life and feelings.
2. Freedom: maybe Juliet was thinking in have a different life because and she just wanted to get away from the dominance of her parents, especially that of her mother.
3. Love: could be she though she found her true love.
4. Society: At that time, social status was one of the most important thing, even Juliet’s mother though it was better a good position than true love.
5. Adventure: Maybe she did not think about the consequences that her actions could cause, she just wanted to live her own life adventure.

I think in one way they were irresponsible because Romeo and Juliet were just teenagers and they had no idea how a great deal a marriage is but in the other hand, I think they were captivated by love too and even despite of they were adults they had no the opportunity to love. Maybe the Nurse and Friar just wanted to live their own dream through Romeo and Juliet love’s story.

The Nurse definitely, a. I am a romantic person; b. I would have acted in the same way; c. I would have no considered the consequences; d. I would have acted letting myself be carried by the heart and not by reason; e. I cannot say no when someone ask for help even when I should.
1. Definitely the encounter is very authentic. That penetrating eyes between them at the time of looking, makes one feel part of it. That intensity that is observed is very of its time. Women were more committed to finding that love at first sight. Today women have other interests.
ResponderBorrar2.1 The customs or traditions of your society. Women married at an early age. As Mrs. Capulet said, at the age of her daughter many had children.
2.2 As I said before, women were very credulous of love at first sight, believed in blue princes and princesses. No wonder Juliet was one of them.
2.3 To marry and be free from her mother's dominion, in this way she would seek new horizons to become what she wanted to be.
2.4 She was in love with all the nice and lovely words that Romeo was saying to her.
2.5 As Romeo kissed her, perhaps she felt even more engaged, since she was his first kiss with him.
3. I think they both tried to help them but they did it wrong. Also, they must have given better advice so that Romeo and Juliet would have lived happily ever after. Romeo and Juliet did not have the mental capacity to marry or flee. They let their instincts flow without measuring the consequences. The nurse and Fray Laurence must have been mature enough to correct them, but they were carried away by the love that the young people had.
4. Possibly with the nurse. 1. She is it super fun. 2. Because she tries to help others in order to see them happy. 3. She is impulsive, says and does things without measuring the consequences. 4. She is a very lovely person. 5. Always sees the good side of things even if they are bad.
1. I think this kind of attraction can exist especially between teenagers. I believe in love in first sight. Of course, love is more than that. It's a decision. But starts like this, in this way. So, for me this scene is very authentic.
ResponderBorrar2.
-The tradition in this time was to get marry very young. So, for them, there is a reason to think in that, share the rest of their lives together.
-In this time the people didn't get divorced so easily, so they decide to love each other.
-The most important thing happened, to get in love.
-The idea to choose the person to marry with, was exciting for her.
-Get marry with the family's enemy is doing something incorrect, and sometime teenagers feel challenged with this kind of situation.
3. Maybe to see the love between R&J they wanted to help. I think they were good because their intentions were not to harm the kind. They tried to help the young lovers to be free to love each other. Maybe they did not think in consequences or if something goes bad, they just focus in helping them to let their dream come true. I do not know if they want to live their own lives through them but they want to give them an opportunity to live without hate, unselfishness, and many more bad feelings that soon or later will kill them too.
4. With the nurse.
-I think in the other person first
-I believe teenagers need a person to trust
-Love others kids as my own
-Try to help
Give advices all the time
